This event has ended.
In this event we will work through the creation of a basic CAD model, in this case a small battery storage container, to demonstrate the basics of "3D" Parametric CAD programs such as Fusion 360 and Freecad.

I will explain key concepts such as meshing simple shapes to create complex objects, as well as how to constrain those objects to get accurate results. I will briefly preview the different ways to gather measurements from real world objects in order to replicate or accommodate them. As well as discussing different uses for a completed 3D prototype of a project.

During the presentation I will show the process I took to model a simple battery container that I have since 3D printed and use to keep a variety of battery types in my backpack for easy access. This demonstration will be done in a free CAD software called Freecad that can be downloaded from this link: https://www.freecadweb.org/ if you wish to follow along. While I will be visually showing Freecad feel free to follow along in another software such as Fusion 360 if you wish. I will do my best to explain each concept in such a way that it can be applied to any similar software.

(Note for Dev: I will be using pre-made images to show stuff like taking measurements with calipers and the end result 3D print of the model rather than using my camera at all during the event.)
